About Capitol Water Trails

Capitol Water Trails LTD (formed December 22, 1998) is an all-volunteer non-profit dedicated to improving and opening local waterways for safe, responsible public enjoyment.

How We Work

CWT coordinates projects with all interested parties — habitat groups, paddlers, government (state, county, and local), adjacent property owners, and other community partners.

Waterways

There are currently ten waterways under proposal for recreational navigation within fifteen townships in Dane County.

In Progress

  • Maunesha River Trail (projected timeline w/landings 2027)
  • Six Mile Creek (projected timeline 2027)
  • Token Creek (Portage Rd → Token Creek County Park 2026)
  • Koshkonong Creek (1st section 2021, 2nd section 2026, and final 2028)

CWT is projected to open approximately 97 miles of waterways for safe enjoyment and to train volunteers, educate the public, and solicit grants and donations for continued improvements.
